| Wipro takes on job fraudsters
|
A fraud mailer in the name of Wipro from the job portal Naukri.com has been doing the rounds trying to take advantage of job-seekers. Wipro, on its part, has filed a complaint with the police while headhunters like B S Murthy of Leadership Capital Consulting say such fraudsters try to lure people from smaller cities. Pradeep Bahirwani, VP (talent acquisition), Wipro Technologies, makes the same point: "Such letters are mostly targeted at candidates in places like Kanpur, Lucknow and Nagpur where the job demand is more and information is limited."
Talent Acquisition, Wipro Technologies won in Best Overall Recruiting & Staffing Organization of the Year (RASBIC for Talent Acquisition), Best Use of Technology for Recruiting (RASBIC for Synergy - Wipro's Recruitment Portal), and Award for Innovation in Recruitment (Employer Branding Awards for 'Celebrating Dosti' an employee referral event).

Wipro tried to trace the fraudsters. "When we ask for a meeting to discuss details about the job, the number is immediately disconnected or switched off," Bahirwani says. The company says it has been constantly cautioning applicants and students about such fraudsters. In the event someone has already paid money, the company suggested they lodge a complaint at the nearest police station.
"We have informed banks about the account numbers being used in the fraud, but bank managements are mostly not willing to cooperate," says Bahirwani. The company has asked recruitment channels such as leading job portals and staffing partners to sensitize applicants and students about these frauds.
"The best way out is to create awareness about the fraud," says Murthy.
