Job Requirements :
The Alation Tool Lead is responsible for the end-to-end administration, configuration, and continuous optimization of the Alation data catalog platform.
This role focuses on ensuring that the tool is configured to meet organizational data governance needs, maintained for optimal performance, and integrated effectively with various data systems.
The ideal candidate will have strong expertise in data governance tools, experience with Alation, and the ability to lead teams in configuring, troubleshooting, and maintaining the platform.
Key Responsibilities:
? Alation Platform Administration: Oversee the installation, configuration, and upgrades of the Alation platform. Implement Alation best practices and recommend improvements.
? Tool Configuration & Customization: Configure the Alation platform to meet the organization’s data cataloging, data governance, and data stewardship needs. Customize metadata models, workflows, and user interfaces to align with organizational requirements. Configure Articles, Templates and Business Glossary in Alation. Maintain role-based access control and ensure data security protocols are properly implemented within Alation.
? Data Integration: Lead the integration of Alation with various data sources, including databases, data lakes, and data warehouses. Work with ETL teams to ensure seamless data flow into the Alation catalog. Troubleshoot and resolve any data ingestion or synchronization issues. Provide technical support for users of the Alation platform, including troubleshooting issues and providing guidance. Lead training sessions and workshops to educate teams on using Alation for data cataloging and governance. Troubleshoot any technical issues and work with vendors and internal teams to resolve them promptly.
? Collaboration with Stakeholders: Partner with data governance, data management, and IT teams to ensure that Alation aligns with broader data strategy and governance frameworks. Liaise with business users, data stewards, and other stakeholders to gather requirements and ensure that the platform meets business needs. Qualifications: ? Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Information Technology, Data Management, or a related field.
? 8+ years of experience in data governance, data cataloging, or data management, with at least 3+ years of experience working with Alation. ? Strong understanding of data governance frameworks, data stewardship, and metadata management.
? Experience with relational databases, ETL tools, and data warehouse environments.
? Familiarity with SQL and scripting languages (Python, Shell, etc.) for automation and troubleshooting.
? Ability to configure Alation’s core components and has hands-on experience on functional architecture ? Experience with data governance tools such as Collibra, Informatica, or similar is a plus.
? Experience in implementing Alation within large enterprise environments.
