For companies that are currently hiring, providing an exceptional candidate experience is likely to be quite different than it used to. In the age of social distancing, in-person chats over coffee, interviews on-site, and lunches with the team are no longer an option.
Like many others, I too, was anxious and apprehensive of taking up a new role in a new organisation in these uncertain times. However, Wipro took me on a compelling journey while making sure to listen and keep me informed at every step of the hiring process. The ease of application, the timely and consistent communication with hiring managers, and the transparent representation of the company culture and values were all tell-tale signs of an organised, professional, and attractive place of work.
People say, “Choose your employer, don’t let them choose you.” However, this wasn’t as easy in the face of a pandemic as I had no appetite for risk. The positive attitude, transparency, and respect that was shown to me were instrumental in helping me choose Wipro as my next employer. Some of the driving factors were the inclusive culture and passion for work that surfaced during my conversations with the leadership team. My hiring journey with Wipro – from the first conversation to getting the offer – took five months.Maintaining the same level of tempo in an extensive process like this is impossible unless you are relaxed, in your elements and each interaction leaves you energised.
Irrespective of the outcome, it is a process of discovery where both sides evaluate each other, firming up ideas, and going through a decision process. The unique element was that the entire recruitment process was designed to keep me, the candidate, in the middle and ensuring that I interact with the right stakeholders at the right time and get the right information at each stage. I had opportunities to meet senior leaders from various business units. These interactions helped me assess what would it take to be successful at Wipro. During the summer of 2019, I was exploring a number of new strategic opportunities for my next career move. The Wipro Hiring Experience
I have joined Wipro as the Head of Talent Acquisition, UK and Ireland and I want to improve our local brand position in the UK market. I believe this would help us gain the recognition as an employer of choice for opportunity and development.
My grandmother has really inspired me. She was truly an independent person who taught me to follow my dreams on my own terms and make my own path. She worked until she was 80 in HR and said she only worked part time after 75 year at 35 hours a week!
During this work-from-home period I have been able to spend a bit more time doing things I enjoy. I took to making fresh pasta and bread. I was also fortunate enough that lock down did not stop me being able to play Dungeons and Dragons albeit virtually with some of my friends and I am pleased to say I managed to keep my character alive and we just finished an adventure that lasted 4 years.
If I wasn’t doing what I do now I would probably be working in a dog rescue centre where I could play with and bring home as many dogs as possible!
