Job Description

 

The Senior Automation Support Engineer provides production support for critical enterprise automation platforms, ensuring stability, compliance, and secure operations across live environments. The role covers technologies such as System Center Configuration Manager (SCCM), System Center Operations Manager (SCOM), BigFix, Ansible, Converge, Chef, ServiceNow orchestration, and Starfleet (backend, UI, DB, brokers, pipelines, APIs), acting as escalation point for major incidents and driving permanent, auditable solutions.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide advanced L3 support for all enterprise automation platforms, tools, and workflows.
  • Diagnose and resolve complex incidents and problems related to automation failures, performance bottlenecks, and system integrations.
  • Perform root cause analysis for recurring automation issues and implement permanent solutions.
  • Monitor automation platform health, performance, and capacity, proactively addressing potential problems.
  • Develop and implement operational runbooks and troubleshooting guides for automation systems.
  • Collaborate closely with engineering teams to identify and resolve systemic issues and improve automation reliability.
  • Perform root cause analysis (RCA); implement permanent fixes with full audit evidence and change records.
  • Manage changes, patches, and upgrades to automation infrastructure and software.

Provide technical guidance and training to junior support staff and end-users of automation tools

  • Experience: 6-8 years operating production automation/infrastructure platforms in large, regulated enterprises
  • Technical Skills: Strong hands-on experience with at least one major automation tool (e.g., Ansible, Chef, SCCM) and/or orchestration platform (e.g., ServiceNow Orchestration). Proficiency in scripting languages (Python, PowerShell, Bash) for troubleshooting and minor fixes. Solid understanding of private cloud/virtualization (VMware) and Linux/Windows operating systems, OpenShift. Experience with monitoring and logging tools.
  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience. ITIL certification is a plus.
  • Soft Skills: Exceptional analytical and diagnostic skills. Strong problem-solving abilities under pressure. Excellent communication and customer service skills. Ability to work independently and as part of a highly responsive team.
