Role Purpose

The Data Governance Specialist is responsible for establishing and maintaining a robust data governance framework that aligns with the organization’s business objectives and compliance requirements. This role ensures the availability, integrity, security, and usability of data assets while promoting accountability and ownership of data across the enterprise.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Governance Framework & Policy Implementation
    • Develop and maintain a comprehensive data governance strategy and roadmap.
    • Define enterprise-wide data governance policies, procedures, and standards.
    • Establish a data stewardship model including assigning data owners and custodians.
  2. Data Quality Management
    • Define and implement data quality metrics, rules, and controls.
    • Monitor data quality across critical data domains; identify and remediate issues.
    • Work with data stewards to implement data profiling and cleansing activities.
  3. Metadata & Lineage Management
    • Define standards for metadata management and data lineage tracking.
    • Oversee the creation and maintenance of business glossaries and metadata repositories.
    • Support technical metadata capture and integration with data catalogs.
  4. Compliance & Risk Management
    • Ensure adherence to data protection regulations (GDPR, HIPAA, CCPA, etc.).
    • Work with legal and compliance teams to evaluate data-related risks and implement controls.
    • Conduct data privacy impact assessments where necessary.
  5. Stakeholder Collaboration & Change Management
    • Drive cultural change and stakeholder buy-in through training and workshops.
    • Act as a liaison between IT and business stakeholders to resolve data governance issues.
    • Facilitate data governance councils and steering committee meetings.
  6. Tooling & Technology
    • Evaluate, implement, and administer governance tools such as Collibra, Alation, Informatica Axon, or Microsoft Purview.
    • Collaborate with Data Platform teams to integrate governance into data pipelines and reporting layers.
