Job Title
Tools Engineer L3 – Flexera Software Asset Management (Managed Services, 5+ Years Experience)

 

Experience

  • Total experience: 5+ years in IT operations / tooling / asset management / infrastructure
  • Relevant experience: 3–5+ years hands-on with Flexera Software Asset Management (FlexNet Manager Suite / Flexera One)
  • Proven experience operating SAM tools in a managed services / AMS environment with SLAs, ITSM processes, and multi-customer or multi-business units

 

Role Summary

 Flexera SAM is the senior technical owner for the Flexera-based Software Asset Management tooling within a managed services setup. This role designs, configures, and operates Flexera SAM solutions, integrates them with discovery, CMDB, procurement, and ITSM systems, and acts as L3 escalation for complex issues and enhancements.

The engineer ensures that Flexera SAM reliably supports license compliance, optimization, and governance across on-prem and cloud/SaaS software, and drives automation and data quality improvements in partnership with SAM, procurement, finance, security, and operations teams.

 

Key Responsibilities

1. Tool Ownership & Architecture

  • Act as L3 technical owner for Flexera SAM (FlexNet Manager Suite / Flexera One) and related discovery/inventory components.
  • Define and maintain the overall architecture and data flows: discovery → inventory → normalization → license positions → reporting.
  • Design and implement configurations, customizations, and upgrades in line with Flexera best practices and enterprise standards.

2. Operations, Support & Incident Management

  • Provide L3 support for incidents, problems, and service requests related to Flexera SAM,
  • Perform root cause analysis 
  • Support major incident handling and on-call escalation when SAM tooling impacts critical compliance

Required Skills & Competencies

  • Strong hands-on experience with Flexera SAM (FlexNet Manager Suite / Flexera One):
    • Inventory and compliance modules
    • ARL/SKU/PURL and software recognition
    • License models, contracts, and consumption calculation
  • Good understanding of software licensing concepts across server, desktop, cloud, and SaaS (per device, per user, core-based, subscription).
  • Experience with discovery/inventory and CMDB tools and asset/CMDB data modeling.
  • Proficiency with SQL and/or scripting (PowerShell, Python, etc.) for data analysis, automation, and troubleshooting.
  • Experience implementing and troubleshooting integrations via APIs, web services, flat-file imports/exports, and connectors.
  • Solid understanding of ITIL/ITSM processes (Incident, Problem, Change) and working in an AMS/managed services environment.

1.    Provide tool design, development and deployment support for the project delivery 
a.    Interact with the internal project or client to understand the project requirement from a tool perspective 
b.    Design the solution keeping in mind the tool requirements, current tools available as well as details on licenses required etc.
c.    Provide budget and timeline estimates for the tool development/ deployment as required
d.    For any new tool development, identify sources for development (internal or 3rd party) and work with the project managers on the development of the tool keeping in mind the production rollout timelines
e.    Conduct commercial discussions with the 3rd party vendors for licenses or tool development 
f.    Conduct appropriate testing to ensure error free deployment of the tool on the project
g.    Ensure deployment of tool on time and within the estimated budget
