Full Stack Engineer – Node.js Modernisation (Microservices Migration)

Location

Bengaluru – India

Role Overview

We are looking for an experienced Full Stack Engineer to migrate existing Node.js microservices (Node 8 / Node 14) to Node.js 24 LTS of a telecom client’s platform that maintains the feasibility of delivering network services to any address in the country they operate.

The role is delivery focused with hands-on experience, requiring strong backend expertise in Node.js microservices, combined with pragmatic front-end and integration awareness, ensuring zero functional or API behaviour change during migration.

The engineer will work closely with Technical Leads, QA, and client SMEs to deliver a safe, controlled, and industrialised upgrade aligned to enterprise security, CI/CD, and governance standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Upgrade Node.js microservices from Node.js 8 and 14 to Node.js 24 LTS
  • Refactor code to remediate:
    • Deprecated Node.js APIs
    • Legacy callback patterns → async/await modernisation
    • Dependency incompatibilities introduced by Node.js LTS upgrades
  • Ensure backward compatibility and contract integrity across all services
  • Work with Express.js-based microservices using TypeScript / JavaScript
  • Upgrade and validate integrations using:
    • REST APIs
    • Authentication mechanisms (JWT / OAuth2 – existing patterns only)
    • Redis or equivalent caching layers
  • Validate integrations with downstream systems, portals, and automation components
  • Support CI/CD pipeline updates for Node.js 24 compatibility
  • Execute npm install / npm test, unit testing and regression testing (where applicable)
  • Fix migration-related defects and ensure clean builds
  • Support CVE remediation via dependency upgrades
  • Re-run vulnerability scans post-migration and validate outcomes
  • Support UI endpoint updates (React-based portals) only where required due to backend upgrades
  • Ensure no UI redesign or functional enhancement is introduced
  • Coordinate with frontend or portal teams for validation and smoke testing

Mandatory Skills & Experience

  • Strong experience with Node.js (LTS versions) in enterprise environments
  • Hands-on experience with Express.js microservices
  • Solid understanding of:
    • Node.js runtime changes across major versions
    • Dependency management and npm ecosystem
  • Experience with TypeScript / modern JavaScript (ES6+)
  • Working knowledge of React.js and frontend-backend integration
  • Experience with:
    • RESTful APIs
    • JWT / OAuth2 authentication flows
    • Redis or equivalent caching technologies
  • Familiarity with portal integration and UI endpoint dependencies
  • Experience working with CI/CD pipelines (Node-based builds)
  • Understanding of:
    • Unit, functional, and regression testing
    • Dependency scanning and CVE remediation
  • Comfortable working in controlled enterprise environments with strict governance

Desirable Skills

  • Prior experience in platform or runtime upgrades (Node.js, Java, etc.)
  • Exposure to AI-assisted code refactoring or migration tools (human-in-the-loop model)
  • Experience in telecom, large-scale enterprise platforms, or regulated environments
  • Familiarity with observability tools (logs, metrics, dashboards)
