Job Title : Global Employment & Labor Laws Compliance Manager ((India & Global Oversight)
Function: Global People Operations (GPO)
Location: India: Bangalore (with global interface)
Role Purpose
There are about 9000 compliances across 62 countries that Wipro needs to comply with to ensure a “licence to operate”. The Labour Laws & Employment Compliance Leader is responsible for ensuring comprehensive compliance with employment and labour legislations across India and other operating countries and entities of Wipro. The role provides strategic oversight, regulatory assurance, litigation support, and stakeholder governance across employment compliance, statutory remittances, audits, policy implementation, and risk management, while partnering closely with HR, ERM, Legal, C&B, Audit, CISO, Business teams and external partners.
K͏ey Responsibilities
Employment & Labour Law Compliance:
- Ensure a strategic approach to ongoing compliances wrt employment and labour laws across India and Wipro’s operating entities and countries through structured assessments of data, processes, and policies.
- Identify compliance gaps, assess risks, and drive timely mitigation actions in collaboration with internal stakeholders.
- Maintain oversight of country specific employment compliance requirements and emerging regulatory changes impacting the organization along with country legal and HR leaders.
Statutory Registrations, Filings & Contributions (India)
- Procure, renew, and manage statutory licenses, registrations, and approvals related to employment from appropriate government authorities in India.
- Ensure accurate and timely submission of statutory reports, returns, declarations, and forms under applicable employment laws.
- Oversee remittance of statutory contributions such as ESIC and Labour Welfare Fund (LWF) within defined statutory timelines.
Vendor & Third Party Employment Compliance
- Lead employment compliance assessments of vendors supporting Facilities Management Group (FMG) and Global Security Group (GSG) across Wipro offices in India.
Audits, Inspections & Regulatory Engagement
- Ensure timely availability of accurate, complete, and auditable data for Client audits, Government inspections, External statutory audits, Internal audits and assurance reviews
- Liaise with government authorities during inspections, inquiries, and compliance reviews.
- Participate in conciliation proceedings and represent the organization before labour authorities, tribunals, and courts.
Litigation, Disciplinary & Investigative Support
- Support employment related litigation matters by coordinating documentation, responses, and court submissions in India.
- Conduct and oversee inquiries related to background verification failures and disciplinary investigations.
- Execute absconding processes
Client, Contractual & Business Support
- Respond to employment compliance related information requests from existing and prospective clients.
- Support RFQs, due diligence, and contractual reviews by providing accurate employment compliance inputs and risk assessments.
Policy, SOP & Regulatory Documentation Enablement
- Partner with HR and policy owners to ensure timely updates and publication of employment policies and SOPs in response to regulatory changes and audit observations.
- Facilitate prioritisation, review, and compliance validation of policy and SOP content uploaded on internal knowledge platforms (e.g., The Dot), while working within defined access and ownership frameworks.
- Ensure alignment between documented policies/SOPs and actual operational practices from a compliance standpoint.
Data Privacy, Information Security & Records Governance
- Oversee employment related data privacy and information security compliance, including:
- Access management, Data retention and statutory record maintenance, Regulatory documentation, Privacy notices and consent artefacts
- Breach assessment and response support, Ensure app enrolment compliance in Configuration Management Databases and adherence to contractual data protection provisions.
Risk Management & Business Continuity
- Maintain the GPO risk register, conduct risk assessments, and track mitigation plans.
- Support employment compliance risk assessments for acquired entities as required.
E͏ducation & Qualifications
Education
- MBA and or Law degree (LLB); Any additional qualifications in Labour Laws, Industrial Relations, or Compliance preferred.
Experience
- 12–18 years of progressive experience in labour laws, employment compliance, employee relations within large, complex global organizations.
- Strong exposure to Indian labour legislation; global employment compliance experience is an advantage.
- Proven experience handling government inspections, audits, conciliation proceedings, and court matters.
- Experience supporting client audits, RFQs, and contractual compliance reviews.
