The Role Mandate

As a Principal Architect - Chromium WebEngine, you will take the helm in leading the comprehensive architecture, optimization, and transformative efforts of a Chromium-based Web Engine tailored for TV and embedded device platforms. Your mission is to develop a lightweight, modular, and highly efficient browser platform optimized for low-specification System on Chips (SoCs). This initiative focuses on minimizing runtime memory usage and storage demands while preserving full HTML5 compatibility via the Blink rendering engine and V8 JavaScript engine. This role critically influences the core technical vision, conducts architecture reviews, performs in-depth performance analyses, and oversees the execution of the long-term technical roadmap in collaboration with platform, operating system, and product teams across the organization.

Key Responsibilities - Architecture and Platform Ownership

• Own the overall Chromium-based Web Engine architecture across browser core, rendering, media, graphics and platform integration for TV and embedded platforms.
• Define and evaluate approaches for low-spec devices, including process consolidation, IPC reduction, rendering-path optimization, selective component simplification and efficient memory sharing, while managing security, compatibility and stability trade-offs.
• Drive Chromium customization and restructuring of core browser components for long-term maintainability and scalability.
• Lead architecture reviews and execute the long-term technical roadmap with platform, OS and product teams.
• Drive low-memory footprint, efficient CPU and GPU utilization, startup-time improvement and stable runtime performance.
• Lead system-level memory and performance analysis, embedded Linux debugging and resolution of complex platform issues.
• Support customer-facing technical discussions, solutioning and architecture reviews when required.

How the Role Works

The Principal Architect works across browser internals, rendering pipelines, media and graphics subsystems, embedded Linux and platform integrations. The role combines hands-on technical depth with team-level architectural leadership and cross-functional roadmap execution.

Mandatory Skills and Experience͏

• 12-15 years of software engineering experience across browser-engine and embedded technologies, with significant ownership of system architecture, technical design and optimization of complex software platforms.
• 5+ years of hands-on experience with Chromium WebEngine internals and strong understanding of browser architecture, renderer processes, IPC mechanisms and rendering pipelines.
• Deep understanding of Chromium Browser, Renderer, GPU/Viz, Network Service and Utility processes, including hands-on knowledge of Mojo IPC and cross-process communication.
• Ability to move from architecture definition to proof-of-concept development, code-level investigation, technical validation and root-cause analysis.
• Demonstrated system-level memory and performance optimization in large-scale codebases, including rendering, compositing, media and graphics subsystems.
• Experience technically leading architects and engineers while remaining hands-on in critical design, debugging and optimization activities.

Preferred / Good to Have͏

• Experience with Chromium build and development workflows such as GN, Ninja, Git, automated builds and embedded Linux build environments.
• Experience managing a long-lived Chromium fork, minimizing customization debt, planning version upgrades, maintaining patch isolation and identifying upstream contribution opportunities.

Educational Qualification͏

Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Electronics, Embedded Systems, or a related engineering discipline, or equivalent relevant experience.
