Job Description

We are looking for an experienced SAP SDI / SAP HANA Data Integration Consultant to support the integration and automated replication of data from SAP ECC into SAP HANA Database on SAP BTP. The consultant will be responsible for setting up and managing SAP Smart Data Integration, configuring the Data Provisioning Agent, coordinating with infrastructure/security teams, and enabling reliable replication pipelines between SAP ECC and SAP HANA.

The ideal candidate should have hands-on experience with SAP ECC data extraction, SAP HANA remote sources, SDI adapters, Data Provisioning Agent installation/configuration, and end-to-end replication setup, monitoring, and troubleshooting.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and implement data integration architecture between SAP ECC and SAP HANA DB on SAP BTP using SAP Smart Data Integration.
  • Install, configure, register, and manage the SAP Data Provisioning Agent / DP Agent.
  • Work closely with infrastructure, Basis, security, and network teams to prepare the required server, connectivity, firewall, and access setup.
  • Guide infrastructure teams on DP Agent installation prerequisites, including operating system, Java/runtime requirements, service user setup, network connectivity, and required firewall rules.
  • Configure DP Agent adapters required for ECC data integration, such as ABAP, OData, JDBC, or other relevant SAP/non-SAP adapters depending on the source design.
  • Create and configure remote sources in SAP HANA for ECC connectivity.
  • Set up automated data replication from ECC tables/views/extractors into SAP HANA DB.
  • Build and manage real-time or scheduled replication flows, virtual tables, flowgraphs, replication tasks, and target tables.
  • Validate source-to-target data movement, data completeness, and reconciliation between ECC and HANA.
  • Monitor replication jobs, identify failures, troubleshoot connectivity/agent issues, and resolve data load or latency problems.
  • Support performance tuning for large-volume ECC data extraction and replication.
  • Prepare technical documentation covering architecture, connectivity, DP Agent configuration, port requirements, replication setup, monitoring steps, and support handover.
  • Ensure integration design follows enterprise security, audit, access control, and data governance requirements.

Required Skills and Experience

  • Strong hands-on experience with SAP HANA, SAP HANA Cloud / HANA DB on SAP BTP, and SAP Smart Data Integration.
  • Practical experience integrating SAP ECC data with SAP HANA using SDI.
  • Hands-on experience installing and configuring SAP Data Provisioning Agent / DP Agent.
  • Experience supporting infrastructure teams during DP Agent setup, firewall opening, certificate/configuration checks, and connectivity validation.
  • Good understanding of SAP ECC data models, tables, extractors, CDS/views, and functional domains such as Finance, Procurement, Sales, Logistics, or Master Data.
  • Experience creating remote sources, virtual tables, replication tasks, flowgraphs, and automated data pipelines in SAP HANA.
  • Ability to troubleshoot DP Agent, adapter, remote source, and replication issues.
  • Knowledge of SAP HANA SQL, HANA security, user/role management, schemas, and target table design.
  • Understanding of batch, scheduled, and near-real-time replication patterns.
  • Experience with SAP Basis/network/security teams for connectivity setup between on-premise SAP systems and SAP BTP/HANA.
  • Strong documentation and communication skills.

Infrastructure / Network / Port Requirements Knowledge

The consultant should be able to assess and guide the required network connectivity for the landscape. Typical connectivity areas include:

  • DP Agent server to SAP HANA DB on BTP / SAP HANA Cloud
    • Outbound HTTPS/TLS connectivity, commonly over port 443, depending on the HANA Cloud/BTP endpoint configuration.
    • HANA SQL connectivity as required by the target HANA environment.
  • DP Agent server to SAP ECC
    • SAP application server connectivity for RFC/ABAP-based extraction.
    • Common SAP application server gateway/dispatcher ports may be required depending on ECC instance number and connection method.
    • Typical SAP ports often follow patterns such as:
      • Dispatcher: 32<instance number>
      • Gateway: 33<instance number>
      • Message server: 36<instance number>
      • Secure gateway / SNC ports where applicable
  • DP Agent administration / local service access
    • Local DP Agent service ports as configured during installation.
    • Internal/admin access should be restricted to approved servers or administrators only.
  • DNS, proxy, certificates, and TLS
    • Ensure DNS resolution from DP Agent server to ECC and HANA/BTP endpoints.
    • Configure corporate proxy if outbound internet/BTP connectivity is routed through proxy.
    • Validate SSL/TLS certificates and trust store configuration where required.
  • Firewall/security coordination
    • Prepare connectivity matrix covering source host, target host, protocol, port, direction, and purpose.
    • Validate connectivity using tools such as telnet, nc, curl, HANA client, or SAP connection tests as appropriate.
    • Work with security teams to follow least-privilege and approved enterprise network patterns.

Final port numbers must be confirmed from the actual ECC instance number, HANA/BTP endpoint, cloud connector/proxy design, and enterprise firewall standards.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with SAP BTP, SAP HANA Cloud, or cloud-based HANA database deployments.
  • Experience with SAP ECC to HANA replication for reporting, analytics, data warehouse, or migration use cases.
  • Experience with SAP SLT, BODS, SDA, SDI, Datasphere, SAP Data Services is an advantage.
  • Knowledge of SAP security concepts, technical users, RFC destinations, certificates, and SNC/SSL configuration.
  • Experience working in large enterprise environments with strict change, release, and access control processes.

Suggested Experience Range

7+ years in SAP data integration, SAP HANA, SAP ECC, or SAP data migration/integration projects, with hands-on SDI and DP Agent experience.
Mandatory Skills: SAP HANA Cloud Integration .
