Job Description
The Mainframe z/OS System Programmer (Level 2) would be responsible for delivery and support of Mainframe z/OS operating system and all other associated support services on the platform.
Responsibilities include:
- Ability to understand the client’s overall Mainframe z/OS setup across the various Systems/LPARs in different environments (Prod/Dev/Test/QA).
- The z/OS Systems Programmer should have sound experience of Mainframe Systems Programming.
- Candidate should have the requisite z/OS support know-how to support the Business as Usual (BAU) functions daily and assist the Onsite L4/L3 team on key issues and escalations related to the z/OS operating system.
- Have experience in supporting ISV product upgrades and maintenance especially products from IBM, Broadcom-CA, BMC, Micro Focus.
- Have exposure working in a 24/7 Production support environment.
- Working with the Onsite z/OS Lead, he/she would be responsible for supporting and handling the installation, upgrade, maintenance and support of z/OS and related products in the environment.
- Candidate must keep or improve stability and reliability of z/OS and proactively react to grow/risks/issues.
- Should be capable of solving complex technical problems, communicating technical concepts to clients and peers with mixed levels of technical know-how.
- Would be responsible to work closely with other Mainframe Infrastructure and Application Specialists to support the large client environment.
- Debug minor z/OS problems and apply fixes if necessary.
- Work with IBM/ISVs for technical support if necessary.
- The role requires provision of out of hours support for the implementation of z/OS software changes and support for other projects requiring software expertise as well as being part of an on-call Rota.
- Should be ready and available to work on various time zones depending on client needs.

Experience (Preferred)
- Sound hands on experience (6+ years) as a z/OS System Programmer working in Mainframe environments with experience in managing z/OS across multiple Systems.
- Must have sound understanding and working knowledge of a combination of skills such as z/OS, SMP/E, TSO/ISPF, USS, SDSF, SMP/E, JCL, DB2 and CICS System Programming.
- Proficient in TSO, ISPF, JCL and mainframe system console commands.
- Must have knowledge of IBM, BMC and CA Products and be able to work independently on most occasions.
- Knowledge of Assembler, Automation, GDPS, Rexx and CLIST skills will be of immense value.
- Good knowledge of system initialization and tuning, performance monitoring using Omegamon, RMF, SMF and SAS
- Sound written and spoken communication skills; an ability to communicate with impact, ensuring complex information is articulated in a meaningful way to wide and varied audiences.
- Demonstrate strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Good knowledge & experience in SYSPLEX/Parallel SYSPLEX. SDSF, VSAM, Catalog management, USS, IBM system utilities.
- Have good understanding and experience on Hardware Configuration Definitions / IOCP and HMC Management and WLM management.
- Good knowledge in Disaster Recovery.
- Knowledge in Storage concepts.
- Understanding cloud, virtualization, APIs, and modern software languages.
- Good understanding of ITIL modules like Incident, Asset, Problem and Change Management.
- A comprehensive understanding of risk management and proven experience of ensuring own and others' compliance with relevant regulatory processes.
