Job Description
1. Role Summary
The AWS L3 SME is responsible for designing, building, automating, and supporting AWS-based network infrastructure to host network appliances and servers. The role works closely with AWS and network teams to define low-level designs, implement infrastructure using Terraform and GitHub pipelines, and enable secure, scalable connectivity between AWS environments and enterprise networks via Transit Gateway (TGW) and Direct Connect (DX) across PNX locations.
2. Detailed Responsibilities
Design & Architecture
- Collaborate with AWS and Network teams to develop Low-Level Designs (LLD) for AWS network infrastructure.
- Translate architectural requirements into implementable AWS configurations (VPCs, subnets, routing, TGWs).
- Ensure alignment with enterprise network, security, and connectivity standards.
Infrastructure Build & Automation
- Provision AWS infrastructure using Terraform (IaC).
- Develop and maintain GitHub CI/CD pipelines for automated deployments.
- Build and configure:
- VPCs, subnets, route tables
- Transit Gateways (TGW) and attachments
- Security groups and network controls
- Ensure reusable, modular, and compliant infrastructure code

Connectivity Enablement
- Establish connectivity between new VPCs and:
- Existing TGWs, or
- Newly created TGW architectures
- Enable hybrid connectivity to on-prem environments through Direct Connect (DX) across all PNX locations.
- Validate routing, traffic flow, and failover behavior.
Deployment Support
- Support deployment of network appliances and servers in AWS environments.
- Ensure proper network configuration for appliance onboarding (interfaces, routing, security).
- Work with network teams/vendors to enable appliance configuration in cloud.
3. Operations & Troubleshooting Responsibilities
- Provide L3-level troubleshooting for:
- AWS networking (VPC, TGW, routing issues)
- DX connectivity and hybrid routing
- Terraform and pipeline deployment failures
- Network appliance onboarding and communication issues
- Support network teams in diagnosing and resolving cloud-related issues.
- Perform root cause analysis (RCA) and recommend fixes.
- Maintain as-built documentation, deployment artifacts, and operational handover inputs.
- Ensure environments are stable, supportable, and compliant with enterprise standards.
