Job Description

Role Summary
The Test Manager is responsible for defining and delivering the end-to-end testing strategy across programmes, ensuring that all systems and business processes are validated to the highest quality standards. The role provides leadership in test governance, stakeholder management, and delivery assurance across all phases of the SDLC.

Key Responsibilities
1. Test Strategy & Governance
Define and own the overall test strategy, approach, scope, and estimates across SIT, UAT, E2E, and regression cycles 
Establish test governance frameworks including entry/exit criteria, quality gates, and defect thresholds 
Ensure alignment of testing approach with Agile, DevOps, or Waterfall delivery models
2. Test Planning & Delivery
Develop comprehensive test plans, schedules, and resource allocation models 
Manage end-to-end test execution across functional, integration, and non-functional testing
Ensure full requirement traceability (RTM) from requirements through to defects and closure 
Coordinate with development, business, and project teams to ensure timely delivery of test cycles 
3. Defect & Risk Management
Own the defect lifecycle including triage, prioritisation, root cause analysis, and resolution tracking 
Identify and proactively manage risks, dependencies, and test environment constraints
Drive defect leakage prevention and quality improvement initiatives
4. Stakeholder Management & Reporting
Act as the primary QA interface for business stakeholders, programme leadership, and delivery teams
Provide regular status reports, dashboards, and executive insights on quality, risks, and release readiness 
Support governance forums (e.g., SteerCo) with clear reporting and decision inputs
5. Team Leadership & Management
Lead and mentor QA teams (onshore/offshore), ensuring high performance and capability development 
Manage resource planning, workload allocation, and performance tracking
Foster a culture of quality, collaboration, and continuous improvement
6. Test Tools, Automation & Environments
Oversee the use of test management tools (e.g., JIRA, HP ALM, Azure DevOps, SAP Solution Manager) 
Review and approve test cases, automation coverage, and regression suites
Drive adoption of automation frameworks and CI/CD-integrated testing practices
Manage test environments, data, and toolchains effectively 
7. Process Improvement & Compliance
Conduct reviews and audits of test processes and deliverables 
Ensure compliance with organisational and industry quality standards
Continuously enhance testing methodologies, frameworks, and artefacts
Skills & Experience
Core Skills
Strong expertise in test strategy, planning, and execution
Experience across SIT, UAT, E2E, regression, and non-functional testing
Hands-on experience with test management and defect tracking tools
Strong understanding of SDLC, Agile/Scrum, and DevOps practices
Leadership & Business Skills
Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills
Proven ability to manage distributed teams and large-scale programmes
Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills
Experience
Typically 7–15+ years in software testing / QA, with experience in Test Lead / Test Manager roles 
Experience in enterprise domains (e.g., Banking, Insurance, Retail, SAP) preferred
