Role: Gas Network Modelling Consultant (Simone Tool)

Band: B2, B3, C1

Location: Hyderabad/Bangalore/Kolkata

As a Gas Network Consultant, you will act as an SME in gas transmission network planning, hydraulic modelling, and gas network simulation. You will provide expertise in SIMONE and other gas network modelling tools to support planning, operations, engineering and decision‑making. Contribute to transformation programmes involving migration from legacy planning tools, model consolidation, performance optimisation, and process modernisation.

Responsibilities

  • Build, validate, and maintain detailed gas network models including pipelines, compressor stations, valves, pressure‑reducing equipment, blending stations, and gas storage facilities.
  • Execute steady‑state, transient, and dynamic simulations to support planning, operational forecasting, scenario evaluation, and system analysis.
  • Conduct capacity assessments, identify system constraints and bottlenecks, and support calorific value and commercial calculations.
  • Lead and support integration of SIMONE implementation for transmission, distribution and whole system operators.
  • Work with IT teams to develop SIMONE‑based applications, automated workflows, and data exchange pipelines.
  • Gather business, engineering, and operational requirements and translate them into technical modelling or IT system specifications.
  • Import, clean, transform, and integrate data from GIS systems, asset databases, and legacy modelling platforms into SIMONE models.
  • Perform model validation, calibration, version control, and continuous quality assurance to maintain modelling accuracy.
  • Engage with planners, engineers, operators, IT/OT stakeholders, and commercial teams throughout the full modelling lifecycle.
  • Support utilities transitioning from legacy gas planning tools to SIMONE or hybrid modelling environments.
  • Contribute to testing, commissioning, and go‑live activities for modelling platforms and IT integrations.
  • Deliver SIMONE user training, including simulation workflows, scenario building, system usage, and advanced modelling functionalities.
  • Produce high‑quality documentation such as modelling guidelines, technical specifications, workflows, and user manuals.

͏

Skills & Experience Required

  • 5–12 years of experience in implementation of gas network planning, modelling, simulation IT solutions for transmission and or distribution networks utilities.
  • Strong expertise in gas transmission system planning, hydraulic modelling, pipeline operations, and gas network behaviour.
  • Hands‑on experience with SIMONE for simulation, optimisation, system analysis, and network planning.
  • Experience with additional gas network planning tools such as Synergi Gas, GasWorks, PIPEPHASE, GT‑SYS, or similar platforms is plus.
  • Good understanding of SCADA systems, OT environments, and integration approaches for real‑time simulation.
  • Knowledge of gas quality tracking, calorific value calculations, system capacity modelling, and operational constraints.
  • Experience importing, transforming, and validating network and asset data from GIS or legacy systems.
  • Strong capability in requirements gathering, systems analysis, testing, documentation, and IT implementation support.
  • Experience working with gas transmission operators or within utility modernisation programmes is desirable.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills across engineering, IT/OT, and operational teams.
  • Strong analytical, structured, and detail‑oriented approach with proven problem‑solving abilities.
  • Ability to deliver training, lead workshops, and support capability development within utilities.
  • Graduation or post-graduation in mechanical engineering or energy systems is preferred.
