Role Overview

As a Lead Kafka developer at Wipro Technologies, your primary focus will be on guiding and enhancing the performance of Production Specialists while solving technical escalations related to data streaming operations. You will lead the design, implementation, and optimization of scalable real-time data streaming applications using Apache Kafka and Kafka Streams. This role involves fostering technical expertise within your team to ensure reliable, fault-tolerant, and efficient data processing pipelines that support critical business functions.

In this leadership capacity, you will collaborate closely across multiple teams, including application developers, data engineers, and DevOps, to seamlessly integrate Kafka solutions into the enterprise data ecosystem. You will monitor system health, troubleshoot complex issues, and implement enhancements to strengthen system resilience and scalability. This role is crucial in supporting Wipro’s commitment to end-to-end digital transformation by enabling robust and responsive real-time data streaming capabilities.

Key Responsibilities:

• Lead the architecture, development, and continuous improvement of real-time data streaming applications leveraging Apache Kafka and Kafka Streams technologies.
• Manage and optimize complex Kafka stream processing pipelines to achieve high throughput with minimal latency, ensuring alignment with business performance requirements.
• Proactively resolve technical escalations, providing expert guidance and mentoring to Production Specialists to enhance overall team capabilities.
• Integrate Kafka with various upstream and downstream systems, ensuring smooth data flow and interoperability between diverse platforms.
• Monitor Kafka clusters and applications, diagnose issues promptly, and perform tuning operations to maintain optimal functionality.
• Collaborate cross-functionally with data, application, and operations teams to drive end-to-end delivery of data streaming solutions.
• Develop and enforce best practices and standards around Kafka deployments, focusing on data reliability, fault tolerance, and system scalability.
• Contribute to the evaluation and adoption of emerging technologies and tools that enhance Kafka ecosystem capabilities.

Required Skills & Experience:

• 5 to 7 years of progressive experience in IT with a strong core focus on Kafka and Kafka Streams development.
• Extensive hands-on expertise in Apache Kafka including Kafka Streams, Kafka Connect, Schema Registry, and associated ecosystem components.
• Proficient programming skills in Java are essential, with familiarity in other JVM languages considered a plus.
• Solid understanding and experience working with real-time data processing systems and event-driven architecture paradigms.
• Demonstrated knowledge of distributed systems concepts, ensuring effective design and operation of scalable applications.
• Experience with REST APIs, JSON, message serialization formats such as Avro or Protobuf, and integration with various data platforms.
• Comfortable navigating and managing Linux server environments relevant to Kafka deployments.
• Strong problem-solving skills complemented by the ability to work collaboratively across technical and business teams.

Desirable Skills:

• Experience working with cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or GCP and integrating Kafka services within these environments.
• Knowledge of microservices architectures that interact with Kafka messaging systems.
• Familiarity with monitoring tools like Prometheus, Grafana, or similar for Kafka ecosystem performance tuning.
• Understanding of security best practices related to Kafka clusters, including authentication and authorization mechanisms.
