Job Description
We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Production SQL Server Database Administrator (DBA). This role is strictly focused on the operational support and maintenance of our production database environments, ensuring a clear separation of duties from development teams. The ideal candidate will be responsible for the stability, integrity, and performance of our critical SQL Server systems (2016 and newer). The primary function of this role is to manage the production environment and deploy pre-approved database updates and changes provided by the development teams.
Key Responsibilities
- Production Environment Management: Solely manage and maintain production SQL Server databases (2016 and newer), ensuring maximum uptime and performance.
- Deployment of Updates: Deploy database scripts, code, and configuration changes provided by the development team to the production environment according to established change management protocols.
- High Availability & Replication: Configure, manage, and troubleshoot High Availability (HA) solutions such as Always On Availability Groups and Failover Clustering. Manage and monitor all forms of SQL Server replication.
- Performance Monitoring & Tuning: Proactively monitor production database systems for performance bottlenecks. Analyze and execute performance tuning and optimization as required.
- Incident & Problem Resolution: Provide real-time troubleshooting and resolution for all production database incidents. Perform root cause analysis for complex problems.
- Backup and Recovery: Implement, manage, and regularly test backup, restore, and disaster recovery strategies for all production databases.
- Security and Compliance: Ensure that all production databases adhere to company security policies and compliance requirements. Manage database access and permissions.
- Process and Documentation: Refine and automate regular administrative processes. Meticulously document all production changes, procedures, and incidents.
- On-Call Support: Provide 24x7 on-call support for critical production systems. Be available for scheduled after-hours maintenance and deployments.
Required Qualifications
- 5+ years of experience as a Microsoft SQL Server Database Administrator with a strong focus on production environments.
- In-depth, hands-on experience with Microsoft SQL Server 2016 and all subsequent versions.
- Demonstrable expertise in managing SQL Server High Availability (HA) and Disaster Recovery (DR) technologies.
- Proven experience managing and troubleshooting various SQL Server replication topologies.
- Strong skills in Performance Tuning and Optimization (PTO) within a production context.
- Experience working with the Windows Server operating system.
- A strong understanding of separation of duties and experience working within strict change management controls.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to work under pressure.
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced operational environment.
Preferred Qualifications
- Relevant Microsoft certifications (e.g., MCTS, MCITP, MVP).
- Experience with virtualization technologies (e.g., VMware, Hyper-V).
- Familiarity with cloud platforms such as Microsoft Azure or Amazon Web Services (AWS).
- Proficiency in scripting languages for automation, particularly PowerShell.
- Experience with third-party database monitoring and diagnostic tools.
Experience: 5-8 Years .
The expected compensation for this role ranges from $60,000 to $135,000 .
Final compensation will depend on various factors, including your geographical location, minimum wage obligations, skills, and relevant experience.
