Site Core Architect
Job Description
- Define and manage performance SLOs (Service Level Objectives), and publish scorecards aligned to Core Web Vitals and key business KPIs.
- Build and own a performance improvement roadmap and backlog, including detailed fixes, architectural changes, telemetry needs, and regression guardrails.
- Partner with the Turbo leadership pod to prioritize backlog work and align with platform roadmap execution.
- Translate digital OKRs into measurable performance thresholds (e.g., page load time, JS/CSS payload size, cache hit ratio, render time).
- Design and optimize caching rules, HTTP headers, media optimization (IVM), compression protocols (Brotli, Gzip), and redirect handling.
- Implement and maintain Akamai EdgeWorkers to support high-performance personalization at the edge.
- Define and enforce architectural performance standards for the AEM SaaS rollout to prevent reintroduction of legacy inefficiencies.
- Tune CMS-delivered headers (e.g., caching, vary, CORS) to reduce render latency and support edge delivery.
- Audit and refactor JavaScript bundles via tree-shaking, code-splitting, async/defer, and dependency reduction.
- Improve render performance with critical-path CSS extraction, lazy loading, responsive image formats, and priority hints.

Required Skills & Experience
- Hands-on web performance engineering across large-scale, public-facing platforms
- Deep knowledge of Akamai (EdgeWorkers, Property Manager, mPulse, caching policies)
- Experience with legacy CMS tuning (Sitecore) and contributing to SaaS CMS implementation (AEM SaaS preferred)
- Strong frontend engineering background with expertise in JS performance, bundle analysis, and browser lifecycle
- Fluent in modern build and observability tooling: Webpack, Vite, Lighthouse, SpeedCurve, DevTools, WebPageTest, RUM platforms
- Familiarity with debugging cookie issues, redirect chains, 3xx/4xx/5xx spikes, and cross-origin resource challenges
- Able to lead and influence cross-functional stakeholders with a data-driven, solution-oriented approach
