Role Purpose

The purpose of this role is to resolve high-priority incidents through advanced troubleshooting, ensure SLA compliance, analyse system performance trends, and create mitigation measures by collaborating with internal and external stakeholders.

Areas of responsibility

Triaging and resolution of tickets-Provide resolution to high priority incident (P2) tickets, performing advanced troubleshooting and root cause analysis to ensure timely closure.

SLA Monitoring-Ensure SLA compliance for assigned technology areas and ensure proactive escalation management.

Performance tuning and optimization-Analyse system performance data, coordinate findings on system behaviour, and support capacity planning initiatives to enhance overall system efficiency.

Perform system Improvements-Create mitigation measures to evaluate new tools or improvements by collaborating with technical teams.

Handling disaster recovery-Perform security assessments and recovery drills, and implement necessary controls to ensure compliance with established security standards.

Reporting and stakeholder engagement-Participate in weekly and monthly service review meetings, provide updates on performance and issues, and support stakeholder communication to ensure transparency and service alignment.

Team Management-Collaborate with team members to resolve open tickets and service requests.

Knowledge base and continuous learning  Contribute to updating SOPs, knowledge articles and maintaining the knowledge repository for the purpose of future ticket resolution.

We are looking for a resource with 10+ years of experience in Symantec NetBackup Administration. 

Key Responsibilities: 

  • Responsible for the deployment, administration, and support escalation of enterprise backup infrastructure 

  • Collaborate closely with Regional Project and Server Teams to deliver efficient storage provisioning solutions for business requirements 

  • Develop in-depth expertise in new products, provide advanced troubleshooting, manage deployment projects, and communicate product capabilities effectively 

  • Monitor, measure, report, and recommend optimization opportunities across the storage infrastructure 

  • Ensure compliance with global Information Security baseline policies and maintain systems in line with security standards and patching requirements 

  • Participate in weekend support, early morning shifts, and hotline/on-call rotations as required 

  • Manage all Incidents, changes and any other requests that are assigned to the queue 

  • Support and manage restore requests as requested by application/support teams 

  • Proactively monitor and resolve backup failure’s 

  • Provide daily/weekly/monthly reports for backup failures and any other reports requested for 

 

Required Skills and Experience: 

  • Strong hands-on experience with Symantec NetBackup in enterprise environments 

  • Working knowledge of IBM and Quantum tape library technologies 

  • Experience with scripting languages such as Shell, Perl, or similar automation tools 

  • Proven experience in the deployment, configuration, and administration of backup infrastructure and tape libraries 

  • Working knowledge of enterprise-class Fibre Channel switches and directors from Cisco, Brocade, and McData 

  • Experience with NetApp storage systems, particularly backup integration and configuration 

  • Strong knowledge of Unix/Linux environments, VERITAS Volume Manager, and file systems 

  • Project management experience with the ability to coordinate infrastructure deployments and upgrades 

  • Expertise in 2nd and 3rd level fault diagnosis, troubleshooting, and issue resolution 

  • Experience working within financial services environments will be an added advantage
