Job Description: 

The Role Mandate

As Research Architect-Chromium, you will translate high-level architectural direction into detailed subsystem designs, prototypes, and validated technical solutions for Chromium-based Web Engine initiatives on TV and embedded platforms. Working under the guidance of the Principal Architect, you will drive architectural simplification, runtime memory reduction, rendering and IPC optimization, while preserving Chromium compatibility, stability, and expected browser behaviour on resource-constrained hardware.

Key Responsibilities - Architecture and Detailed Design

  • Own subsystem-level architecture and detailed design for Chromium-based Web Engine initiatives on TV and embedded platforms.
  • Design and validate solutions that optimize rendering and runtime memory usage for Chromium-based Web Engine.
  • Research, design, and validate architectural approaches for process consolidation, IPC optimization, rendering-path optimization, and efficient memory sharing, while preserving Chromium compatibility, stability, and expected browser behavior.
  • Support architecture reviews and long-term technical roadmap execution with platform, OS and product teams.

Key Responsibilities - Investigation, Optimization and Validation

  • Conduct deep technical investigations and develop proof-of-concepts for rendering, memory, performance, and browser-process integration optimizations.
  • Drive memory profiling, performance analysis, and regression avoidance to ensure stability on resource-constrained hardware.
  • Validate proposed architectural changes against Chromium compatibility and expected browser behavior.
  • Support customer-facing technical discussions, solutioning and reviews.

How the Role Works͏

The Research Architect operates at the intersection of architectural direction and engineering implementation. The role combines hands-on Chromium design, technical investigation, prototyping, profiling and cross-functional review to deliver stable and optimized solutions for TV and embedded platforms.

Mandatory Skills and Experience͏

  • 8-12 years of hands-on software engineering experience across browser-engine and embedded technologies, with ownership of subsystem architecture, technical design and optimization.
  • 5+ years of hands-on experience with Chromium WebEngine internals and strong understanding of browser architecture, renderer processes, IPC mechanisms and rendering pipelines.
  • Deep understanding of Chromium Browser, Renderer, GPU/Viz, Network Service and Utility processes, including Mojo IPC and cross-process communication.
  • Strong proficiency in C++ and demonstrated experience in system-level memory and performance optimization across large-scale codebases.
  • Ability to progress from architecture definition to proof-of-concept development, code-level investigation, technical validation and root-cause analysis.
  • Skilled in embedded platform debugging, profiling tools and architectural problem-solving.

Preferred / Good to Have:͏

• Experience with Chromium fork maintenance, version upgrades, upstream alignment, or architectural abstraction techniques that minimize long-term customization overhead.

Educational Qualification͏

Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Electronics, Embedded Systems, or a related engineering discipline, or equivalent relevant experience.
