Role Summary

The SQL Database Administrator (DBA) will be responsible for providing end-to-end SQL Server database support services with a strong focus on proactive monitoring, performance optimization, availability management, security, and incident resolution. The role ensures high availability, reliability, and optimal performance of SQL Server environments through continuous monitoring, preventive maintenance, capacity planning, and adherence to industry best practices—thereby minimizing downtime and business disruption.


Key Responsibilities

SQL DBA Support & Administration

  • Provide proactive monitoring and administration of Microsoft SQL Server databases across production, non-production, and DR environments.
  • Perform routine health checks, database housekeeping, and preventive maintenance activities.
  • Ensure database environments are stable, secure, and compliant with organizational standards.

Performance Tuning & Capacity Management

  • Monitor and analyze SQL Server performance metrics (CPU, memory, I/O, wait stats).
  • Perform query optimization, index management, and execution plan analysis.
  • Support capacity planning and forecasting to ensure databases scale with business growth.
  • Proactively identify performance bottlenecks and recommend corrective actions.

Availability, Backup & Disaster Recovery

  • Manage and maintain backup and restore strategies for SQL Server databases.
  • Perform and validate backup restorations and disaster recovery drills.
  • Support high availability and DR solutions such as:
    • SQL Server Always On Availability Groups
    • Failover Cluster Instances
    • Log Shipping / Replication (where applicable)
  • Ensure RTO and RPO objectives are met as per business SLAs.

Security, Access & Compliance

  • Implement and manage database security, access control, and role-based permissions.
  • Support encryption, auditing, and security hardening best practices.
  • Ensure compliance with internal policies, regulatory requirements, and customer security standards.
  • Perform regular security reviews and vulnerability remediation support.

Incident, Change & Maintenance Support

  • Provide L2/L3 incident resolution for SQL Server-related issues within defined SLAs.
  • Participate in change management activities, including deployment support, patching, and upgrades.
  • Execute scheduled maintenance activities such as:
    • SQL Server patching
    • Version upgrades
    • Configuration changes
  • Document incidents, root cause analysis (RCA), and preventive actions.
Mandatory Skills: Azure SQL Database .

 

Experience: 8-10 Years .

 

The expected compensation for this role ranges from $80,000 to $173,800 .

 

Final compensation will depend on various factors, including your geographical location, minimum wage obligations, skills, and relevant experience. Based on the position, the role is also eligible for Wipro's standard benefits including a full range of medical and dental benefits options, disability insurance, paid time off (inclusive of sick leave), other paid and unpaid leave options.
